Intressant att samtidigt som några fossiler (i ordets verkliga bemärkelse) i USA försöker blåsa liv i sin gamla kolindustri så är det tydligt att i andra delar av världen är kolets dagar över.
I Europa säger Eurelectric att de efter 2020 inte räknar med några nya investeringar i kolkraft.
“26 of 28 member states have stated that they will not invest in new coal plants after 2020,” said Kristian Ruby, Eurelectric’s secretary-general. “History will judge this message we are bringing here today. It is a clear message that speaks for itself, and should be seen in close relation to the Paris agreement and our commitment to provide 100% carbon-neutral electricity by 2050.”
De två länder som fallerar är Polen och Grekland.
I Australien säger den politiska oppositionen nej tack till nya kolsatsningar och de har stöd av landets egen kraftindustri.
“the world is moving rapidly to decarbonise electricity supply and the current owners of coal-fired power stations were quite emphatic in telling this committee ... that they are getting out of coal and have no intention of building any more coal-fired power stations.”
Kommer Trump-gänget att göra helt om även i detta avseende?
